Eugene,
We may have touched on this subject before but I do not remember any concrete conclusions. Could you please tell me whether I can download and access my ACTUAL portfolio @ fidelity in real-time? Obviously WLP has such a capability as it downloads all the accounts and holdings upon a login to Fidelity. Is there anyway we can gain access to such data from within a strategy code? I do not see any API. Are there any workarounds? Can this useful capability be provided within WLP?

-Thanks, J

If you couldn't recall the exact discussion thread, search the forum: there are only 8 hits when doing Member Search by your username (including this).

I guess the answer is: I don't know, it's a hack/D.I.Y., it's not supported.

While I do realize you are working hard to support the community and appreciate it, I did not quite appreciate the patronizing tone of your response. The description of this topic states: "Let us know what you want to make this your ultimate trading system development tool!" As such, I suggested a feature that might be quite useful to WLP and its users, asking if this capability could be provided in a future release and current workarounds. The previous discussion was quite brief and had not given me a clear understanding of what needs to be done before I embark on development. Cone had also mentioned that perhaps I can gain access to the underlying API that WLP uses to download the portfolio. Again, I don't have any clarity as how this can be achieved.

Jalal,

First, let me apologize for the tone that could sound "patronizing" to you, but it wasn't my intention. My assumption was that it could be easier for you to find your own discussion thread from My Bookmarks or by searching your threads, and continue from there than create a new thread with no pointers.

While I don't recall the exact discussion,

1. The proposed enhancement contradicts the current design of Wealth-Lab that is "strategies always run in theoretical mode". No matter how wonderful it could look, we (the third party supporters aka MS123) do not have the power to prioritize requests -- it's Fidelity's prerogative.

2. Anybody interested in accessing the unsupported and undocumented API calls and other hacks are making it on their own. This is fair and has been our policy. According to this FAQ, anything not documented in the QuickRef is unsupported.

Let alone Fidelity's proprietary APIs -- we're never disclosing them and do not support reverse engineering of the protocols used to access this information.

I think it's a good idea to have the ability to access to Positions in live or even paper accounts. WLP gets this information and I can't think of a good reason not to give a script the ability to access the information that WLP already has. This has been requested several times, so I encourage Fidelity customers to keep calling Fidelity and requesting this feature.
