GICS.xml in WLP 6.9.24.4 is missing the Real Estate sector?

I just successfully completed the WLP 6.9.24.4 install. Now I want to update the local copy of my Gics.xml file with Data Manager. I went into Data Manager and pushed the update button for the Fidelity provider as shown. The Gics.xml file now shows today's date.

But the GICS lookups aren't working as expected. When looking inside the Gics.xml file, I see the 60xxxxxx Real Estate sector was never created.

So please explain what I did wrong. Do I need to delete the current Gics.xml file and recreate every Fidelity dataset I have so a new Gics.xml file with the new Real Estate sector category is created? Or is there a better way?

Or does the new GICS lookup system in WLP 6.9.24.4 even employ the Gics.xml file in the first place?

I just noticed the Fidelity provider does know about the new Real Estate sector, but the old Gics.xml file doesn't update to reflect this.

So the question remains, how does one get the old Gics.xml file to update to reflect the new GICS classifications? Do I need to delete the old Gics.xml file? If so, how do I get the Fidelity provider to recreate it again?

1. What's the last modified date of the GICS.xml file in AppData/Roaming?
2. Have you searched for GICS across other locations such as Program Files?

The date is exactly the same as the update date shown in Post# 2. Were you expecting a different date?

I'm not sure I understand your question. See the file search below. Some of those files below are image files to create the images for this forum.

So I have a new question. Has anyone gotten GICS to work in WLP 6.9.24.4? By "anyone," I'm including Cone and the developer. If so, what steps did they use? It might be working, but we just don't know how to correctly update the local Gics.xml file. What we need are instructions.

Fact: GICS is hardcoded in WLP 6.9.24.4. It's not downloaded anymore when you click Refresh. That's how it works.

Conclusion: the GICS.xml file should include Real Estate but the order may be unsorted.

Is GICS going to be available in WLD? This is part of the Fidelity provider which will be gone after 7/31/2020.

The GICS functionality has not been part of the WLD code base. But I'm sure it may be added to WLD if there's demand and it's free from licensing issues.

Okay, I copied my entire Gics.xml file into Gics.txt and attached it. There is no Real Estate sector in there. (I would have attached the Gics.xml file, but the website upload won't let me.)

The other problem is that GICS look-ups no longer function. They worked fine with WLP 6.9.22.7 and earlier, but not now. My thinking is that the old Gics.xml file isn't compatible, but you can try the attached file and see if you can get it to work.

Has anybody at all got this to work? I think we are doing something wrong, but I don't know what it is. Perhaps the Gics.xml file needs to be recreated from scratch (without the old file).

I have WLP 6.9.21.15. I do not see the Real Estate sector either, but the Gics.xml has today's date for date modified in the Data folder.

Two weeks before decommission of WLPro, I think there's no reason to expect that GICS would ever get fixed. Like it was already pointed out in another topic, the high cost of data subscription (GICS included) has led to Fidelity's decision. MS123 will not be licensing GICS data so there probably will not be GICS support in WLD.

And that won't matter because it's a static look up (hard coded). We just move the Gics.xml file (once it's working) and the WealthLab.DataProviders.dll library over to WLD and we may be in business.

Really, if I can just get the cross indexing from GICS code to description working, that would be worth it. Can you secure the source code for doing that?

Right--so we have two weeks. Cone said he got it working and I believe him (i.e. the code is working fine). So we just need to ask Cone how to get it initialized. Once it's initialize correctly, it will work. Right now the look ups don't work at all.

It looks like there is a forum entry to get GICS information from Morningstar, but I haven't tested it. Can we get GICS data in WLP and WLD from Morningstar now?? See post #15 in the link below...

It is a different implementation than what I am using now in WLP, but it could be better as I've had trouble with the GICS data in the xml file for years. I stopped using it because it was unreliable. It sounds like superticker is running into the same problems as I did.

Moringstar returns NAICS/SIC/ISIC codes which I believe is an alternative to GICS. But this implementation has proven to be reliable.
