I have been a Wealth Lab user for 10 years and have created many rules based strategies during that time. I am having a very hard time using WL 8. I could not even create a simple SMA strategy, something I could do on previous versions easily. It is clear that WL 8 has a lot of functionality but the approach is different.

Any suggestions on how to get up to speed with WL 8?

Thanks

The best thing you can do is heavily leverage the forum here while you adjust to the new paradigms. We typically respond to all questions the very same day if not hours or minutes 🙂

This topic has some good help for translating from WL6 to WL7 - still valid for WL8:

Also, we're putting together courses right now for C# and Block Strategy Programming. Look for the first classes in January!

This Blog entry is also very informative (as are the others):

Plus, I finally managed to find some time to go through the various videos published in YouTube and they have a lot of juice too. The Webinar's playlist might be a good start:

I appreciate all the responses. I also appreciate the invitation to leverage the forum. Thank you.

To start simply, if I was doing a SMA strategy (say 20 periods) how do I compare the SMA with price to trigger a buy or sell? I see many great conditions WL 8 gives me but not price. Is it called something else?

Any help would be appreciated.

Think of 'price' as another "Indicator". So if you see a condition like "Indicator Crosses Indicator" (for instance), this also means that the Close (or OHLCV in general) crosses the SMA, or another OHLCV, or an SMA crosses an SMA etc.

That 'packing' WL8 does to minimize the number of conditions and make them universal and flexible.

Eugene, that helps a lot. I got it to work.

I need to play with this now. The navigation is different.

Thanks so much. I am afraid I will be back with more basic questions.

Understandable, we're here to answer :)

Once you get used to it, you'll appreciate the greater flexibility with much less rules "clutter."
