It doesn't necessarily stop. Give it some time to download data. Depending on your strategy's Advanced Settings, it can even be getting intraday data. Click Cancel and then Run backtest again. If it doesn't help, reopen the strategy window. If still no go, provide details - start with Backtest data, DataSet, data provider, order of checked historical and event providers in the Data Manager.

Thanks Eugene. Still freezes before loading. Yahoo data, daily, Russell 3000, 10 years, position 10%.

Russell 3000 is a lot of symbols to download and Yahoo is probably not the right provider choice for the task. You can get temporarily suspended with them for downloading a DataSet of much less size.

Make sure that Granular Processing is disabled in Advanced Settings. Switch to Offline Mode if data has already been cached.

BTW, my computer is a surface pro intel i5, 1.6 GHx, Ram 8 GB. Would it help if I had more horsepower?

Thanks again

I'd say it won't hurt if you at least double that RAM.
