I am still trying to transition to WL7 from WL6...and having trouble. I am more of the beginning student! WL7 offers so much more than WL6; it is quite a learning curve for me.
I am working with the Neo Master strategy and saved it in a workspace.
1. How do you enter multiple individual stocks with the same strategy but different parameters? Are they each a saved workspace with their individual stock name?
2. Will you be able to see them in list form with their individual parameter assignments as you could in the strategy monitor in WL6?
3. Can you see what the parameters are for an individual stock without going through the strategies--optimize--strategy settings?
4. In WL6 there were 4 individual parameters to personalize. (CMO Period/Consecutive Down/Bars Ago/Oversold) There are only 2 parameters that are changeable in WL7. Right? (Consecutive Bars/Bars Ago)

Thanks.

They aren't. Here's a suggested workaround:

This is becoming a FAQ item, perhaps we need to add it to the website FAQ.

The Strategy Monitor has a block where you customize parameters.

True, CMO is no longer a part of the Neo Master strategy. Perhaps this is an oversight. To match the WL6 system you can add a new "Sell At Market Open" and drop an "Indicator Compare to Value" condition for CMO. All is left is to expose two parameters then. A new exit block is required to do an "OR" style condition.

This sounds like the beginning of a feature request for what was known in WL6 as Preferred Values.

I was just looking for a Preferred Values (PVs) feature in WL7 last night. Are you saying WL7 doesn't have this?... Seriously?

If that's true, then WL7 is useless to me. And I'll need to stay with WL6. What's the point in having the same parameter values for every stock in a dataset? If you're going to do that, then you could simply hard code all those parameter values into the strategy itself (which I do for some more stable "parameters" now).

Well, let's keep WL6 running good then.

To my knowledge, this is the first conversation about Preferred Values we've had for Wealth-Lab 7. Until someone creates a feature request and we see some votes, it seems to be important to only 2 customers.

We jokingly referred to them in the past as the “curve fitter’s dream” but who are we to argue with customers?? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I posted this request: https://www.wealth-lab.com/Discussion/Strategy-parameters-associated-with-individual-stocks-WL6-Preferred-Values-PVs-for-WL7-6560

I also added an extra numerical enhancement to it. But feel free to add that extra at a later time. I just want WL7 to be on par with WL6.

1. I think I understand the clone suggestion...but does this mean each individual stock with a different parameter is saved as a separate clone under Strategies?
2. It sounds like individual stock symbols should be visible in the Strategy Monitor. I just see the strategy I am using listed there. What is the process to get the symbols into the Strategy Monitor?
3. Right now, I don't see the block to customize parameters in the Strategy Monitor. Maybe once the symbols are there it's visible?

1. For the time being, yes.

2, 3. There is a block to customize parameters if strategy contains them defined and compiles correctly. The SM operates on DataSets only and there's no way to have preferred values for the individual stocks there either. Workaround: created a DataSet for each stock, add an instance of the strategy to run on it, and customize parameters for each instance.

An excellent name for an extension. If you want to beat historical data - all these tools are here for you. If you want to beat OOS data - look for something else.

If seriously, it's not a gun that kills, but a person who pulls the trigger. I can select params values for every ticker in non-curve-fitting manner, but I don't have a tool to do it withing WL7 as optimization tabular only shows whole dataset metrics.

I'm still confused...I need slow and simple.
I understand the SM operates on data sets.
1. In Post #8, question 2, 3, you said there is a block to customize parameters but do I understand not within the SM but only through the building blocks? and create separate data set for each stock?
2. Which brings me back to the original post question 3. Is strategies--optimize--strategy settings or: strategies--strategy settings the only or best routes to see and adjust the parameter settings?
3. In post 1, question 2, you said the SM has a block where you can customize parameters. All I see in the SM is the strategy I am using. Isn't there a way to see what symbols the strategy is running (besides in the data manager)? Or do you have to check each workspace? In WL6 I could see all the symbols I was working with on one screen so I feel like I am missing something.

To see the block (of settings) called "Strategy Parameters" for a strategy that has been added to the SM you should highlight that strategy, depress "Activate" (if activated) and click "Configure". Strategy Parameters are also displayed when adding a new strategy to the Strategy Monitor.

To clarify, you don’t need to press Activate if the Strategy is not already active. The idea is you can Configure a Strategy as long as it’s not active.

OK. I found the configure procedure in the SM.. That's easy...(now I can say that!)
Thanks.
One last thing to clear up. Maybe this needs a new discussion?? If I have more than one symbol running under a strategy, are they somewhere so you can see them in a list other than by name only under the data manager?
Thank you for your patience.

You can see a system's activity in the SM including the symbols it's applied to if you click "View Log Pane" and highlight a strategy.
