Loading a weekly and daily chart with WL data, no problems. Very quick.
Loading a hourly chart (let alone 15 minutes), it takes a very long time.

I assume this has to do with the length of the requested amount of data loaded into chart (under preferences > data).

For daily/weekly it is set to 10 years of data.
If that is also the case for intraday data, it's logic the retrieve of ID data takes a very long time. TWS can even block the retrieve because one asks too much data in same time period.

Suggestion: to split EOD and ID.

Don't wanna give you guys extra work :-) , it is not a personal request, I assume this makes it more convenient for all users who interchange between EOD and ID.

Or there are better ways to handle this?

That's exactly what the Preference does, it lets you split intraday and end of day data. Note the check box "Always Load all Data for Daily+ Scale."

So how many is loaded standard for an intraday chart?

If you check 'always load All data for charts ind daily+ Scale'' means that it will retrieve all data available with the data vendor? Even if you specified 5 years?

Here's my Preference:

This means, for INTRADAY charts it will load 1,000 bars.

But, for DAILY+ charts, it will load ALL DATA, since I checked that box.

For further elaboration, Hit F1 or click the Question Mark icon. You'll be directed straight to this Preference Page's Help entry.
