Hi,

A couple of data issues:

1) It'd be nice to be able to update all data sets for a given provider with a single button click.

2) I updated my data with the data manager then re-ran a backtest and it didn't use the new data even though I'm using Most Recent N years.

What am I doing wrong please?

I even closed the strategy and re-opened it after the update and still no luck. It's stuck with the data loaded over a week ago.

Try using Date Range instead and make "to" beyond today.

Thanks. I ended up closing the program and re-opening it as well as changing the data sets and that seemed to finally fix it. I'll try that next time.

I'd still consider it a bug though since it says "Most Recent N Years" so it should go to the latest date available.

Of course there is. Right click on a provider on the Historical Providers tab, choose "Perform bulk data update".

It could be that the data is considered up to date. So as not to restart WL7, from the same context menu choose "Clear internal request tracking info" prior to updating.

Thank you. I would've never thought about doing either of those. This is really helpful.

I'm on build 6 and when I right-click WealthData in the Data Sets tab of data manager it gives 3 options: New Dataset, Configure and Delete dataset. For a UI suggestion maybe add those to that tab too?

Please re-read Post #4. You're looking in the wrong place.

We decided not to add them to the toolbar because they are more advanced options and we didn't want to overwhelm newer users.

Please re-read my suggestion. I found them and it is helpful thank you. But I am suggesting adding them to the right-click options on the first tab not just the second one. That won't take up toolbar space or confuse users. My philosophy is always less clicks though so my suggestion eliminates the need for a tab change.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Those options don't apply to individual DataSets, so I'm afraid it might be confusing putting them there. Especially since the same symbols can be shared among numerous DataSets. We'll think about the ramifications though and see if this is doable.

I suck at being clear it seems. I mean if you right click WealthData or My DataSets (not the individual data sets) on the DataSets page. I.e. right-click on the cog/folder.

Thanks for looking at it.

Ah ok, I see your point. It would make sense to put them there, yes.

I keep forgetting to do this:

Clear internal request tracking info" prior to updating.

What exactly is this doing?

Why when you update the data the next time you use it in a backtest it doesn't use the most up to date data automatically?

Thanks

p.s. keeping it in this thread since it's all related.

Please find it documented in the Help > Data Manager > Historical Providers. It's not intended to be an option for everyday use, rather a repair measure.

Ok, thank you.

That reminds me. It would also be really great to just have one click data updates for all my data.

Right now, I have to go the Historical providers and update all providers. The event provider and update all providers. I have to right click every provider to clear the internal requests. It's a lot and doesn't make any sense.

Open Data Manager. 1 click. Everything updated. All strategies use the updated data automatically. Done. Please.

Huh. I never even open the Data Manager. Zero clicks for me. WL7 updates the appropriate data on demand whenever I run my strategy 🤷🏼‍♂️

I've run into issues with that not happening and it was explained to me that I had to go through these steps. The data is NOT updating automatically.

The data is not updated automatically for you on the Scheduled Update tab? Leaving the DM open is required for this to work.

And that's why we need support for Scheduled Tasks, otherwise the schedule update will basically never work. Vote for this one:
Support Scheduled Tasks for Auto Update
