When creating an ascii data set, it would be nice to have a default path, already in the folder pane, instead of forcing the user to start searching from My Computer, all the way down to

CODE:
Please log in to see this code.

Better yet, make the last used folder (for ASCII data set) the default.
Mo bettah yet, allow the user to configure the default to display in the pane.

In addition, or as the MINIMUM alternative, one ought to be able to paste the path into the folder pane, to avoid the ridiculously long process of drilling down to the path each time one creates a data set.

Cheers,

Wow, you hide those ASCII data folders deep enough. If there's a folder structure containing numerous ASCII subfolders, as a temporary workaround you could create a Shortcut to the root folder and put it to the root of a pen drive. From My Computer, that would probably be the shortest path.

Thank you for the suggestions. What could work is making the ASCII provider remember the last used folder during the current Wealth-Lab session.

A new option to configure the default path is exactly something that we prefer to avoid to keep the design simple and clean from confusing choices and checkboxes. Being able to paste the path into the folder pane is good but only worth it when you have a folder open in Explorer to copy the path as text. That doesn't simplify it for the user either.

If one were adding several ASCII data sets, given no other changes, it would be very helpfull to be able to paste the starting path into the window for the second and subsequent set. Besides, at least for me, I had to have a windows explorer running in order to sort out which ds went where, so the path was handy, but I couldn't paste it. :(

The parent of the last folder is the default data folder, created during the installation. Seemed like a good place for the ascii sets.

Got it. The shortcut method could act as a workaround for the time being. The key is to put it "on top" of that folder selection dialog to remain easily accessible.

The ASCII provider developer agreed to remember the last used folder in a future build.

Great! I just want to mention, that at present this window, when it does have a path in it already (experienced when backing u to change path), is write protected. The path should be editable, AND should act as anchor for the browse button.
