Hi,
Does anyone know how easy it is to achieve equity curve switching in the latest version WL. I am from a Tradestation background and using that, one would have to place the strategy onto two charts - one running live and the other running a simulated version - the simulated version would be generating the smoothed equity curve. The live chart would be accessing the smoothed equity curve from the simulated chart and switch based on the behaviour of this curve.

Obviously I would need access to the equity curve but not sure how this could be achieved in WL or even if this is at all possible.
Thanks,
Imran

Let's start by finding out why you need the smoothed equity curve.

I want to be able to calculate the moving average of the equity curve and only place trades if my real equity curve is above the smoothed curve. If my real equity curve is below the smoothed curve then I dont want to place any trades.

FYI I found some topics titled 'Equity Curve Trading' on these boards but they were rather old and related to the old version of WL.

Using the Trading the Equity Curve PosSizer from our PosSizer Library will make it effortless.

Thanks that looks good. However this sounds like an internal method. What if I want to experiment with a 'smoothing method' other than a SMA? Is this possible?

Definitely possible. The PosSizer API manual is available for viewing/download from the Wealth-Lab Wiki, as well as a code example (Random PosSizer project in C#). Using Visual Studio or SharpDevelop, it's possible to come up with your own smoothing method in your own PosSizer.

I've written an article which intends to familiarize mechanical traders and WealthSignals subscribers with the notion of exploiting a temporary weakness of a system to their benefit. Check out this brief overview of methods for "trading the equity curve" designed to take the system's equity curve and performance under control at the WealthSignals website:

When a mechanical trading system is having a drawdown what do you do?
