Hi,

I installed WLP 5.5 without any problem, but when I try to launch it I get the following error in a pop-up window:

"There is some problem occurred while loading Headmap. /nPlease ensure that you are having .NET runtime version 3.5+"

I do have .NET 3.5 sp1 installed. I already tried uninstalling .NET and re-installing it. Tech support is unable to help diagnose the issue. Apparently I am the first to report the error.

Has anyone else seen this message?

If there are WLP 5.5 developers monitoring this forum, I would appreciate it if someone could do a search for the above phrase in the code. BTW, the grammar errors and "/n" are all a part of the message text.

Thanks,

- Kevin

Does it really say "Headmap" instead of "Heatmap"?

What O.S. are you on?

Hi Kevin,

I'm not the extension's developer but can tell that HeatMap failed to initialize. Could you please create a support ticket? HeatMap handles it gracefully but logs the actual error message, so please zip and attach the WLP.log file from your WLP log directory:

Windows XP -- C:\Documents and Settings\Windows User Name\Application Data\Fidelity Investments\WealthLabPro\1.0.0.0\Logs
Vista/Windows 7 -- C:\Users\Windows User Name\AppData\Roaming\Fidelity Investments\WealthLabPro\1.0.0.0\Logs

Just a note for other users: HeatMap is not the source of error. We're working out this case in support, but it's getting obvious that the problem lies outside of Wealth-Lab 5.x. Either some 3rd party software, tight security policy, broken installation of something - but this issue is highly specific to this computer.

We've solved this problem. Windows regional settings were the culprit. I don't think that there's a high chance that someone will ever experience this error, still here's the solution.

1) If you have the exact error message coming from HeatMap preventing WL5 to load and you're sure that .NET 3.5 SP1 is installed, or
2) Should static charts fail for you with a "System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format", and at the same time, streaming charts work fine...

...do the following:

1. Open the Regional and Language Options applet from the Control Panel.
2. Note the Current Format.
3. Change the Current Format to English (Australian)
4. Click Apply.
5. Change the Current Format to the noted format, eg, English (U.S., American).
6. Click Apply and then click OK.

All this trouble was caused by changing the symbol used to display positive numbers. It's typically empty, but if it contains a symbol or even an invisible char like space, you can get all sorts of errors in financial and spreadsheet software.
