I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to implement a trading strategy where instead of going into cash on a sell, I go into another symbol. I have tried using get external symbol and all that.

Have you looked into the Symbol Rotation folder? There you'll find several working examples that will save you from reinventing the wheel.
Also, click "Download..." in Wealth-Lab's Open Strategy window for more rotational code.
