I just got a new PC with Win 10 and 4K monitor. Previously I was on Win 7 and 2K monitor. Some issues:

1. WL 6.9 did not install as other dt applications do. For example, even after successful install, the program does not show up as an application listed in the Start menu. Could not find the local program using the search window (Cortana).

2. A bigger issue is that the menus are not displaying or functioning properly. I read some of the posts about resolution, so I changed the sizing in the WIn 10 Display Panel from 150% tp 100% without any effect on font size or menu within WL program. I lowered resolution to 2K and fonts got larger, but it did not fix menu problem. I cannot reach settings to do back testing. Please see attached screenshot (made with 2K resolution) to see what is going on with menu display and lack of display of drop-downs, which prevent access to settings.

I have another strange problem with the Win 10 installation. Yahoo symbols are not updating. If I Reload Data in a chart I get a "No Data Available" message. When I run the Updater for Yahoo symbols from the Data Manager, I get the following error messages:
QUOTE:
Updating Provider Yahoo! Finance ...

Requests are ready to go.
Updating Security Names for 2 symbols...
Security Names updated.
[1] QQQ Error: The remote name could not be resolved: 'ichart.finance.yahoo.com'
[0] ILF Error: The remote name could not be resolved: 'ichart.finance.yahoo.com'
Provider update complete for Yahoo! Finance

Fidelity symbols are updating fine.

Strangely, this problem is not happening on the old Win 7 computer. I have restarted my computer and removed and reinstalled WL 6.9 but have the same problem.

Hi,

1. There are dozens of reports, the problem is known, but I'm not aware if a solution is planned by Fidelity. All we know regarding this issue and every workaround discovered to date is carefully collected here:

2. Regarding this I can't but sincerely recommend our forum search feature which is real-time (as you type). This was widely discussed on the forum last month so this thread comes up on top of search results:

Yahoo! Data Not Updating for Last Session

Except the fact that your Win7 PC isn't updating any Yahoo data, and will not do as Yahoo's taken down its old API for good. Simply update the provider extension and restart WLP to fix the issue on both your Win10 and Win7 PCs:

Just as a matter of interest I wonder which data do you like to access that Fidelity does not offer (if you don't mind sharing)? May be we have other data providers that offer that data for free? Also you might want to look at our data provider. If it is just the main indices you are interested in you can get good quality data. Yahoo, and all the other even paid services have a number of flaws. You can see it here:

This clearly indicates that you should upgrade the Y! provider. The latest build is not programmed to reach 'ichart.finance.yahoo.com' in principle.

Note that Yahoo may appear broken periodically. Right now this is not a provider issue, it's something on Yahoo's end. If you get an "Error 401" updating Y! data with provider version v2017.06, all you can do now is patiently wait until they resolve it.

Yup, it did.(BTW I don't have a d/l problem on the Win 7 computer. See #4. That's because I updated the extension recently.)

Seems that anyone who does a new install of the current WL version will have this problem until fix is included in release. But I'm sure you're aware of that.

My understanding is that WLP's latest build 6.9.18 (when it becomes available, not now) should already include the actual Y! provider v2017.06.

Of the various workarounds offered, this one worked for me. (Note: I have WIn 10 Anniversary Update.)

That option fits most. Glad to have helped. But the surefire way is to choose proper display size and resolution with regard to its dot pitch. It's just too small on tablets or 4K screens. The most comfortable screen size for the eyes when working with textual content is somewhere in the 0.28 dot pitch ballpark.

So according to an online calculator, I won't even look at a 3840x2160 screen unless it's 46" or larger. And since 46"+ impractical to work with code, tables, IDEs and databases (impossible to see the entire screen at once) I just will not buy me a 4K screen unless it's meant for watching movies.

Then I guess I'm not going to be able to sell you mine. It's only a 32"

Being very versed about the windows scaling topic, I would like to add:

- Microsoft employees/developers know it sucks. It's been a problem for years and Windows 8 introduced scaling per monitor which was still terrible for the most part. The latest Windows "Creators Update" introduces a few schemes beyond just enabled and disabled which are helpful but definitely not a solution. Windows apps, were never built from the ground up (until recently) to handle font scaling well so legacy style apps will always be trouble.

- Disabling scaling on high-dpi is the best way to go for most applications and if you have your font setting higher than 125% then you will likely need it. And if you only have one monitor, you won't likely have any complaints.

Hi there,

I read the website http://windows10_dpi_blurry_fix.xpexplorer.com/ and installed Windows10_DPI_FIX.exe from http://www.xpexplorer.com/installers/2.1/Windows10_DPI_FIX.exe . After installation, run the app and adjust the DPI scaling to use the Windows 8 way. Afterwards, restart the computer, and I changed the display resolution to a lower resolution (e.g. 1366 x 768 or other low resolution) for my monitor. As such, the menu and side panel looks normal now for my 4k monitor. Hope it can be a help for others.

Thanks for the forum,

John

Hi John,

Your feedback is appreciated. Added a note to the Open Issues.

I went to the site and they tell that the problem should be fixed by applying Windows 10 Creators Update. But if it won't work for some reason the DPI fix you refer to should do it.
