Hi, i'm using market data provider Finam for wealth lab. When i add new dataset and want choose group for testing (futures, stock), i don't see group cryptocurrency, which Finam provides for free download on its website. Is it possible for the group "Crypto Currency" to be added to the date by the Finam provider?
Thank you!

Hi,

When naming a new topic, please choose meaningful topic titles in the spirit of "a wise man's question contains half the answer". Avoid words like problem, bug, question, help, newbie etc. - they are non-descriptive. Instead of judgmental and misleading titles like "Finam DataSet problem", aim to present a short problem description / feature request. I'm sure you'll find "Finam: missing Cryptocurrency in Classification groups?" much more descriptive. In the end, this habit helps you find answers faster. Thanks for considering this.

Now on to your question. Presumably Finam has made an internal change on their end. Although the classification groups still work, Finam apparently stopped updating the old URL the provider is still hitting. That's why you're seeing an old snapshot without cryptocurrencies and any new symbols in it. It would take an effort to figure out what's changed and if it's feasible to adopt changes.

Since the issue isn't critical, I'll put it on my todo list for review later. But no need to wait -- there's absolutely no shortage of Daily and intraday cryptocurrency data for Wealth-Lab! Give the Cryptocurrency provider a try - it already offers many more crypto pairs than Finam would ever do:

1. Cryptocurrency (Bitcoin) data provider - user guide, install
2. Forexite static provider - user guide, install
3. Quandl static provider - user guide, install
4. Although Yahoo! has Bitcoin (try BTCUSD=X for example) I wouldn't recommend it at all - way too many serious errors in the data (O>H, C<L etc.)

Thank you for the objective criticism of my topics. Maybe I'm just lazy. I know that the wealth lab has additional alternative providers. But I can not download them, because I use a corporate multi-license. If there is an opportunity to expedite the solution of this issue I will be grateful to you.

Danila,

I'll investigate the Finam website change later. We practice a monthly release schedule for Extensions so if we're lucky, we could get it done by end of August.

I know how restrictive corporate environments can be but updating an extension like Finam requires just the same admin privileges as installing a new extension. In both cases you will have to talk to your IT person to grant you elevated rights necessary to download or update extensions. As untested alternative, try to have Wealth-Lab installed in a user profile folder to avoid the elevated rights requirement (compared to the drive root or Program Files).

Manually add FIVE-gdr in 'dataset'.xml, I remembered how to do it :)

Good for you Anatoly. Editing the DataSet's XML is an (unsupported) option but you should really know what you're doing (i.e. have in hand the symbol's code assigned by Finam).

Here's a much easier workaround I've just discovered that should serve as an instant solution for Danila (quaresma) too:

1. Download this file with your browser:
https://www.finam.ru/cache/N72Hgd54/icharts/icharts.js

2. Replace icharts.js with the new file at:
c:\Users\Windows username\AppData\Roaming\Fidelity Investments\WealthLabDev\1.0.0.0\Data\FinamProvider\

* Restarting WLD is not required. Do it only if the new groups/instruments are still missing for you.
* Until the provider gets updated, remember to not click "Refresh classification" as this will overwrite the new data with the old file.

This should do the trick while you'll be waiting for the extension update.

Provider has been updated. No more need in the trick described in my post #7 above. From now on, provider will try to detect the location of symbol lists at Finam's website automatically - even if the icharts.js file's URL changes someday (it looks pretty temporary).
