I am installing WL 6.9 on new computer. It is currently running on an older computer.

Is there a recommended procedure for WL d/l and migration of files and setting from old WL instance to new? I am particularly concerned about keeping custom strategies and DataSets.

It's answered in the Wealth-Lab Wiki FAQ > General > How to transfer Strategies and other data between computers?

The directory structure should be pretty evident but just let us know if you have any additional questions as you migrate the data.

Straightforward. One suggestion to consider for future is to put data folder in My Documents folder on Windows installs. Makes it easier to migrate personal data with available tools.

It's not going to happen. Storing user's data in the AppData folder follows Microsoft Windows guidelines. It's a convention. Available tools should be able to adjust to it, and most do.

You can already relocate your Fidelity data (see Data Manager tab) and your Strategies to a network disk (e.g. USB stick in your network router) via "Open Strategy". As an unsupported workaround, meaning that you're on your own, it might be possible to relocate the whole Data folder as suggested in the Wiki FAQ:

Can I relocate the whole "Data" folder (or only some subfolder) of my Wealth-Lab 6 from C: to a different drive or directory?

Hi

I just transferred to a new computer. I read the guideline here: It's answered in the Wealth-Lab Wiki FAQ > General > How to transfer Strategies and other data between computers?

I have copied my strategies and datasets from my old computer to the new one, eg to C:\Users\Rod\AppData\Roaming\Fidelity Investments\WealthLabDev\1.0.0.0\Data\Strategies\ for strategies.

I see the files in Explorer. I can not see the Strategies or datasets in Wealth Lab though, only the default ones. Any ideas please?

I also note there is Wealth lab data at: C:\Program Files\MS123\Wealth-Lab Developer 6\Data

I have copied them there also. I don't know the difference.

Thanks and regards

Hi,

If they're invisible after copying as suggested and then restarting WLD, then you've copied them incorrectly. The correct process ensures that the XML files are copied to subfolders. So if copied into the "Strategies" root folder they won't appear.

If still no go, could you attach a screenshot in PNG format of how the folder and one of its subfolder look like?

The folder under Program Files serves a a very different purpose and it's not recommended to copy your strategies there.

Eugene,

Please note that in addition to the above instructions, in order to get my strategies to run on the new computer, I had to re-download:

Community Indicators
MS123 PosSizer library

Apparently these are not saved in the Data folder. I couldn't puzzle out where they are stored.

Right. Extensions are installed to the Wealth-Lab Installation folder. You can find and safely move all of your installed extensions like this:

1. Uninstall Wealth-Lab from the source computer
2. Any dll file that remains in the Wealth-Lab installation folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\MS123\Wealth-Lab Developer 6) is an installed extension.
3. Move the extension dll's to the same folder on the target computer.

Cone - thanks for the info. On my system the path to these dll's is:

C:\Program Files\Fidelity Investments\Wealth-Lab Pro 6

They are easy to spot on the source computer (without uninstall) if you alpha sort within this folder with a Detail View and look for dll's ("Type" is Application extension) in list named "WealthLab....dll" .
