Hi everyone, does anybody know how to download japanese stocks using wealth lab's web download function

if it's not possible, does anybody know any another way to get free information on japanese stocks that can be integrated into wealth lab (preferably a convenient method)

Unfortunately, Yahoo! does not seem to have historical data for Japanese stocks. Google Finance seems to know about the Tokyo exchange (TYO:) but there is no data (example). You may consider looking at Japanese ADRs, I believe that Yahoo! should have that data.

To anyone whom it may concern, we're planning to release a static/streaming provider that will download daily data for rare overseas securities and rates, such as Japanese stocks for example.

(Notably, Google has such data on the web e.g. TYO:9704 but won't allow data download.)

Is there any way to make the WL5 Google Finance Static Provider faster?

Here is the http://download.cnet.com/Yahoo-Google-Historical-Quotes-Downloader/3000-2057_4-10363602.html which is very fast but stores the data in the ASCII format.

One way I can think of is to rewrite the provider to support multithreaded data downloads. I never planned it, but anyone who's willing to do it, may contribute to the project: its source code is open and available in the Wealth-Lab Wiki.

It's already released. This provider should be able to download most any stock or fund that exists:

The BB web site, unfortunately, doesn't have a list of stocks by region/country/etc like Yahoo does but there's handy symbol lookup feature and some indices allow to view their component lists (the actual number of symbols they have is huge - if only you know the BB ticker, but it's poor that they don't support classification groups as it would make life easier.)

Here's a dozen of Japanese indices:
Asia/Pacific

And here's NIKKEI 225 components, hover over their titles to find out the ticker i.e. Canon Inc. is 7751.JP:
Movers by Index: Nikkei - i.e. you need to feed 7751.JP to get a Canon chart when using this free data provider.

Adding a strategy to the strategy monitor that has a BBFree Provider DataSet associated with it doesnt seem to update. The Symbols just remain in a "pending update state". Any ideas?

Now that the datafeed started supporting a monstrous classification (150K+ funds, 15K+ indices, and 90K+ stocks - compare that to Yahoo's 15K symbols!), the provider will have a Classification Groups feature as well. Sneak peek preview:
