Hi,
I am looking to use ThinkNum fundamental time-series data. They claim all their data is available as JSON at ThinkNum. I save my fundamental cashflow models on their site but I want to simply use the data for my trading system here. Is this possible? They have very detailed finance data so it'll be nice if I can get it.

Hi,

Yes, creating a ThinkNum data provider is possible. Ideally, that should be a fundamental provider but to avoid some design bottleneck, it will be a quasi static provider - much like FRED.

ETA ~ early October. As part of MS123 Extra Fundamental/News Providers.

I see you've added Thinknum Data. Awesome.

Not yet: today I've set up its documentation page in the Wiki. Planning to update the extension on October 1st, adding support for ThinkNum and 99WallStreet data.

coppola asked in a deleted duplicate thread:

ThinkNum offers economic and stock fundamental data.
as it looks to me, only the economic part is integrated in WL. right?

if this is the case, then an integration of the stock data could make sense.

since i experienced lately, that ycharts (for stocks) is more or less unusable (even with the pro subscription) due to the huge download quota problem, there is no real good stock fundamental data provider available for the WLDev customers.

maybe ThinkNum could be a solution?!

Integrated was the feature set made available by ThinkNum a year ago. They seem to have started returning some fundamental data for stocks since then but the data quality is at question. There are real good existing fundamental feeds such as MSN, Morningstar and YCharts that cover the needs of most customers. Not sure if ThinkNum's data is on par, but I'll mark to evaluate ThinkNum's data value for later review - after a deadline and having served the preceding and higher priority requests.

if you look at timely produced stock fundamental data, which is usable in practice, i have to disagree:

ycharts has probably good data and on a timely manner (data from the earnings quarter is produced shortly after reporting), but the download quota problem (mentioned here many times) makes it unusable with a subscription.

msn seems to put in data on a yearly basis (not quarterly)...

thinknum seems to have good, extensive data. and the company looks very innovative.

ThinkNum seems interesting although it raises questions about some missing data that I think should be there. I will put it on my todo list for a later release.

Per your request, I added ThinkNum fundamental provider:

MS123 Extra Fundamental/News Providers

Also, restored the economic provider broken by ThinkNum website overhaul). At the moment, the fundamental provider is temporarily out of order as the site returns HTTP Error 500. You'll know it when the data is empty.

The ThinkNum feed no longer delivers neither economic nor fundamental data items due to yet another website overhaul. The remaining data availability on the website is severely delayed, partial at best, and raises serious concerns about data adequacy. Both ThinkNum's economic and fundamental data providers will be permanently removed effective v2015.07.
