I've created a rules based strategy using the MACD but cannot figure out how to set the parameters for the macd. Anyone know what the default parameters are and how to change them?

You can click the "More Info.." link at the bottom of the indicators dialog for more info about an indicator. There, you'll find this statement: "Wealth-Lab's classical MACD calculation is based on 2 EMAs with exponents 0.075 and 0.15. A 26 period EMA has an exponent of 0.074074 and the 12 has 0.153846. If you want to use approximate MACD instead of the classical indicator you can use MACDEx, a custom indicator that lets you provide 2 periods for EMA."

On that page, MACDEx is a link to another indicator.

Thanks for your response. There is no 'macdEx' option under 'rules' and 'conditions'. Do you know to add this?

On this site, click Extensions (take a look at a tutorial there) > Get Extensions > Indicators. Install Community.Indicators.

Thanks. This is way too complicated. I'm a trader not a programmer.

I would love to set this up and have it work. But I can't figure it out on my own. If someone can guide me through on the phone, I would be very happy.

Any indicator that doesn't have specific rules designed for it can be added using the General Indicator conditions. See User Guide: Strategy Window > Strategy Builder > General Rules

We provide no e-mail or phone support.

I think the illustrated tutorial that teaches how to install an extension in 2 clicks is pretty intuitive, as hundreds of users have already made it through.

What I'm suggesting is to install a new indicator library for your rule-based strategy. It contains a fully customizable MACD (MACDEx). No programming required.

Here are some tutorial videos on subject --

OK, I'll try. Which video describes how to install a new indicator extension?

No video: it takes 2 clicks. Maybe its explanation is too thorough, but it's the way it is to cover all the details: click Extensions on this site and take a look at illustrated tutorial there.

What you need is "How do I install an extension".

Now, I can add the MACDEx to a chart without any problems but it wont allow me to drag into in the Rules which is really what I need to do. Help?

You can't drag and drop into a Rules based strategy. See my last post at 12/10/2009 5:09 PM. It's really straightforward (especially if you follow the guide) on how to add indicators (any) into a strategy.

Side note:
In 5.6, you'll be able to "push" dropped indicators into the Editor (for manual coding), and that action will automatically create the slider code as well.

You don't need to drag anything to the rules. Use Conditions > General Indicators > select MACDEx. There's even a tutorial video... but I said that already.

Actually, its not very straight forward if you don't work with this product all the time. And it makes mistakes even after the rules are in place. Feedback for what it's worth.

That's what the User Guide is for. Really, there's a step by step procedure there.

I'd like to know what those are so they can be corrected.
