When I try to use an external symbol condition with the condition being a given ETF's price" crossing it's moving average, I receive an error message that the said "ETF" is not an index. Are indexes the only external symbols available to use with this function. Otherwise, what might I be doing wrong? TIA for a reply.

You're probably quoting the error message incorrectly - I guess it sounds more like "Index is out of bounds". To help our troubleshooting, please attach a screenshot of the exact condition you're trying to use showing the input fields and the error message.
