Excel static data provider is available for installation from our web site.

This provider allows to read the static data in an occasional Excel 97/2010 (XLS/XLSX) spreadsheet without having to convert it to ASCII/CSV.

Hey Eugene,

While importing an XLS file I am getting an "unhandled exception" just after I choose the file from my directory. The file was converted to XLS from XLSX. Bar interval set to 1, daily data and "header in first row" checked. All I have is a date column and price column with labels in the header. The file is situated in a folder on my desktop that contains various spreadsheets including CSV and XLSX. Any ideas for a solution.

BTW This will be very useful for me. Thanks for including it.

Hi Mike,

Assuming it's not password-protected, please zip and attach the file when entering a ticket and I'll try to fix whatever is wrong.

Re: XLSX, support for 2007/2010 Excel files may happen at some point in time, just not immediately.

QUOTE:
Both computers I use are 64 bit; however using Excel in the 32 bit version makes working between these two incompatible from what I can tell. If I am to use 64 bit version of WL must I have the Excel 64 bit software? From my investigation and the dilemma is that if I use the 62 bit office/ excel this would make other programs that interface in 32 bit Excel not function.

Please let me know if this is so. I hope not to go to the expense for a dedicated 64 bit office/ WL computer. If need be, I would.

Thank you.

Questions re: Excel bitness come from time to time on the forums where it's easy to find yourself using search-as-you-type feature. Enough said on the subject:

Hi Eugene,

Hope you are well. While this hadn't been an issue of past. Check screen shot image. Despite this, the program does seem to reference this file and produces what seems correct trades. The reference

Hi Mike,

No idea, I don't use Excel. The provider hasn't been tested with latest versions of Excel such as 2013. Most likely, a format change. Thanks for reporting it anyway.

Excel static provider's biggest update in years is out with the following changes in v2017.04:

* New: specify custom symbol name if not present in data
* Fix: assumed that dates are sorted in ascending order; handles descending order too
* Fix: checking/unchecking "Header in first row?" could result in no data on chart
* Fix: NamedSeries dropdown box not cleared in DataSet Wizard under some conditions
* Change: ignore bad input like verbose text in headers/footers
* Change: possible to install in Wealth-Lab 6.9+ (.NET 4.5+ framework required)
