All email notifications state they are sent from Wealth-Lab Pro. Is there a file that users may edit to change or add data to this header? One reason for doing so would be to identify the computer sending the alert when multple computers are monitoring strategies.

Thanks Bill

Hmm, what is the question about? The forum is called Automated Day Trading - Futures, but Fidelity doesn't offer futures trading.

Nonetheless, the answer is negative: the e-mail header and format are not user editable in Wealth-Lab Pro 5.

If you are using the quote manager you could enable the setting to write alerts to a file, then have a program monitor that file and send whatever email you want.

Eugene, would Fidelity consider allowing emails to be customizable? Maybe an interface such as IWLEmail which a user could provide implementation for and then WL would execute the SendMail method? Or could this be more easily accomplished via one of the existing APIs -- hard to tell without the documentation :(

Dave,

It's less likely that there's an already existing interface for that, otherwise I would probably know. However, I can understand why e-mails aren't customizable. Is customization really a feature one can't live without?

Arkadjr,

To safely identify the computer sending the alert, you can use separate e-mail addresses. With some providers, it's possible to have multiple virtual addresses tied to the same primary e-mail account.

I don't see how you could use multiple e-mail addresses. There's only one configuration for e-mail despite the ability to run in different Workspaces, so all Alerts will be sent to all addresses configured.

Let's say you got some Alerts by email, how would you react to them? Would you RDP to each of your running computers and enter the trades anyway? What's the workflow here?

Bill (Arkadjr) has mentioned that he uses multiple computers, so in this case it's possible.

Good point :)

Thanks for the info....

The alert PCs are home and I've been using 2 addresses, work PC and IPhone; wanted to just use the IPhone. I'll try Dave's suggestion of monitoring alert files.

I have been unsuccessful is setting up the e-mail notification feature. After sending the Test Email I get an error message that says: " Unable to send message. An existing connection was forcibly closed bt the remote host."

Clearly I am doing something incorrectly however I would appreciate advice on the correct entries to make the E-mail Notification feature work.

It's hardly possible to suggest something w/o clearly knowing where (mail server) and how (settings) you're connecting to.

So here's some guesswork. Chances are, your mail server has blocked the WLP outgoing request as spam. Outgoing SMTP port can be blocked. You may have a retrictive firewall/antivirus and need to grant access for WLP to send mail.

This e-mail setup problem is a mystery. I have a second e-mail address (and a different ISP) for my laptop. This (laptop) address is also on my main computer as an alternate. When I set up the WLP e-mjail properties screens (on the main computer) using the alternate ISP parameters the test message goes through fine. So, the problem is not the firewall nor can it be with anything else on the main com, puter itself. Therefore it must be with my setup.

Here are the entries:

SMTP Host: smpt.att.yahoo.com
SMTP Port 465
Email Adrerss: OK
User ID: OK
Log in with PW: Not checked
PW: assigned by AT&T
SSL: Checked

Error message: Unable to read data from the transport connection. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Firstly, I think you need to check "Login with Password".

The e-mail connection saga goes on. After getting the e-mail facility to work with my alternate ISP I added my normal e-mail address to the address box thinking I could piggy back on the settings that worked. It was not a good idea as a) it did not work and b)when I removed the problem e-mail address the alternate that did work before now did not work either and gave the following error message:

"The remote certificate is invalid according to validation procedure".

Any suggestions?

Nothing else to add to my reply from 12/20/2010 10:58 AM. Too many unknown variables and unproductive guesswork.

P.S. You made a typo in the host name, should be "smtp":

SMTP Host: smpt.att.yahoo.com

This could be the reason.
