Cannot modify the symbols within ASCII/Metastock DataSets

I have a problem in relation to dataset creation that I would like to raise.

For forex I want to limit the dataset size to the 28 major pairs filtering out other 115 pairs that are otherwise included in the forex folder from my data provider (Norgate premium data). When I go to load the symbols in the forex dataset I cannot modify them. Neither can I modify the dataset contents during its formation. Specifically when creating datasets I go from "create a new dataset" to "Metastock Format Data" to browsing for the data folder to the appropriate Forex folder. There is then the list of "symbols that were found". However, if I try to modify this, the changes cannot be saved and when the dataset is created, it still has everything there before the changes I made.

To summarise what I have tried so far, I have deleted Premium Forex, a downloader for Norgate data for Forex. I deleted then reinstalled all historical data. When I created a new dataset for forex, I could then see up-to-date data in newly created datasets, though strangely, old datasets still only went up to the previous dates (2014 and 2013) which is another issue I have had, even though I had deleted and reinstalled everything related to Norgate.

Though I can create DataSets that contain all symbols of the folders from the data provider, if I try to modify elements either by clicking on the dataset on the left, or via the DataManager, I cannot save any changes made. With the DataManager, the "Apply Symbol Changes above to DataSet " is greyed out and cannot be implemented.

I have repeated the process for the ASCII data which is in a separate location, and apparently is a converted form of the other data in parallel. Again I can create the dataset, but cannot modify it, just as for the Metastock data.

Any suggestions?

By design, neither ASCII nor Metastock DataSets can be modified (i.e. symbols added or deleted and/or data edited). In the case of ASCII, you do this by simply adding or excluding the symbol's file from the source folder when Wealth-Lab Developer is not running. With Metastock files, you do this using special tools (don't ask me, I don't remember them by now). As a workaround, this 3rd party data provider allows to change DataSet composition freely by adding only selected symbols of DataSet(s) [or merging selected symbols of multiple DataSets)] into a new one:

This is not a Wealth-Lab issue. As I already noted in the ticket, you were comparing ASCII to Metastock on 2 PCs so who knows what presets were applied when the data was exported. It's two different entities and a 3rd party software layer is involved.

Thanks Eugene. I will look to the original source folder as a next step, then maybe the Aronow software.

However I believe that about a year ago I modified the constituents of datasets using the "add symbol" and "remove symbol from the DataSet" buttons when right clicking on a symbol in a dataset symbol list, and also via the "Apply Symbol Changes to DataSet" via the DataManager, using the same data I am using now. Unless I am confused it seems to me that something is different. I have included pictures of these buttons for the benefit of new-comers

If neither ASCII or Metastock DataSets can be modified, then what datasets does the code implemented by the above buttons work on? When are these buttons applicable?

Unfortunately, your impression is incorrect. These buttons never worked on ASCII and Metastock DataSets. They are applicable only if provider supports this feature which has never been the case with the aforementioned providers.
