Hi - I'd like to use the BB free data that is available on the web (need to figure out how to use that as primary data feed over yahoo etc.
My question is this....
If I added Bloomberg tickers and also Yahoo tickers - could WL read both ie could I somehow tick the datasources 'yahoo' AND 'Bloomberg'.....so that all tickers are read?

eg BMW (cars) on Bloomberg is BMW GY , but on Yahoo it is bmw.de

Thinking about it - it might be easier to stick to one protocol - which would rob be bberg. I am now paying so can use that - is that easy to add-in?

Thx

Hi Connor,

What did you mean by saying "read both"? If it's about creating a WatchList from two or more DataSources like it was in WL4, then the answer is yes, it's possible. Install this extension and restart WLD:

Aronow Software LLC Watchlist Static Data Provider

Open the "New DataSet Wizard", the new provider will appear on top. Later you can adjust the DataSet in the Data Manager > "Watchlists".

Let me know if you had something different on your mind.

Thanks will try it. I meant if I had a list of tickers, mixed between Bloomberg tickers and yahoo tickers, would WL be able to figure out which worked with which data feed? Ie if the Bloomberg ticker didn't work it would ignore result and try yahoo.

Will your extension (above) allow me to use the free BB data sources? Bloomberg isn't on the current data source list. Is this extension like the Bloomberg adaptor I bought for WL 4? Ie you need to download it to get BB to work? This time for free feeds though, not Bb professional.

Thx

What does it mean the ticker "didn't work"? Please read this excellent text: How to Report Bugs Effectively > "It doesn't work" and clarify.

Perhaps you didn't search for it?

Quick follow up on your comment re ' 1500 daily bars' in the BB free info above. Does this mean that you can only have data feeds on 1500 stocks? Or 1500 data points (say candle chart open-close-range) per stock (with unlimited stocks)?
I don't understand what a 'bar' is.
Thx

The server returns max. 1500 bars of data for any given instrument. Instruments are unlimited.

OK - that's actually good news as it is not the reason the data sources aren't working. Hopefully the issue is easily fixable.

I have a list of 5000 international stocks. I went through create database, ticked Bloomberg, had spaces between the tickers but only the US ones work. The system has dropped all the second 2-letter combinations and therefore anything that doesn't end in 'US' - which is the BB default, don't work. I then tried with commas after all tickers - same result though - all dropped.

Eg pasted letters
KO US - works fine but reads in database (after created and looked at) as KO ....no US
SDF GR - GR (Germany) is gone so doesn't work
LLOY LN (London) ditto no LN so doesn't work

I pasted them into the box as follows
KO US,
SDF GR,
LLOY LN,

I also did this without the ',' comma ie
KO US
SDF GR
LLOY LN

That didn't work either.
I did search the forums - all I could find was 'Bloomberg data directly accessed' that didn't address the question.

Also - the Yahoo dataset gave the stock name on the top left of the chart. The BB adaptor has no name (which is what I am using) - even for the US stocks. Is there a box to check somewhere to get the name to show?

I can create a new enquiry if you like as this is probably helpful for other traders out there and for WL as it makes it more open to international investors.

Cheers

I'm glad that you're experimenting but to simplify your life, it pays off to start by reading the documentation. ;)

Wiki > BBFree static/streaming Daily data provider > Possible valid symbol examples

Hint: You can type in some chars of your symbol in the search box on the BB website to find out what the ticker is.

QUOTE:
The BB adaptor has no name

For most symbols there is a company name e.g. MSFT:US while some symbols don't e.g. MSFT. This is not a problem of the provider, it's how the free data feed works.

Right. I was using BB professional chars. ie MSFT US is how you'd write it in professional but you are right, it is msft:us in the free version. Great - thankfully that was it!

Due to demise of the free data feed we have to take down the BBFree provider from the Extensions section.
