Are .PDB files necessary?

After debugging via VS2010Express and having the output directed to the WLD folder .pdb files are sent along with the .dll(s)

Are these necessary after debugging? What are they for? (have goggled but didn't find too much)

Changed the search string and came up with these;

Looks like they're just not necessary after debugging.
